Read what athletes have to say about Training Trips

Hello Will and Ian,

Just a quick note to thank you for a great day yesterday, albeit tiring!!

I was a little nervous at the thought of 4+ hours of swimming on the back of a head cold all week but managed it comfortably. I certainly feel like I have learnt a lot about my stroke and where I now need to focus. The underwater filming was a revelation and screamed out the main areas I need to work on, so from 7:13 (which I was already pleased with!) I can see mid 6’s as being achievable. I don’t mind admitting that I was very apprehensive about the open water session as I am a novice when it comes to open water swimming. This was probably the second highlight of the day for me as to spend some quality time in the lake with everyone, not just swimming around but a proper coached session has done my confidence for the forthcoming season the power of good. My very first ever open water swim was only last May at the New Forest Tri and this saw me having a major panic attack and being fished out of the water (an episode I now have to try and forget!) so I could really relate to your “bubble” story Ian, this and the group coaching in the lake was extremely helpful for me. After 2 minutes of “mild” panic I got myself under control and by the end didn’t want to get out!

Thanks again and I will no doubt see you again at future camps.

Best regards

Rod

Ian & Will

Thanks for the weekend. I had no idea that I could cope with so much in 2 days, I surprised myself - and I feel absolutely fine today!

I loved the 'through and off' on the bike and can't believe I made it up 'British Camp' at Malvern!!!!

Thanks for showing me anything is possible.......

Goods luck with all your training and Training Camps.

Rachel

Hi Ian & Will

Just a short note to say thanks for yet another great weekend, quick view

of my swim video made me realise just how awful my style is...........must

try harder.

Looking forward to the next event, having obviously got Carly's bike sorted

once and for all!

Again, many thanks for your efforts

Julie

Thanks guys – awesome weekend, really enjoyed myself – picked up a lot of really useful tips.

Just a note to say very many thanks once again for a great weekend - I really enjoyed it, particularly Sunday's bike ride which was a bit of a revelation to me!

However, as I feel absolutely fine today I obviously wasn't working hard enough ; - ) ........................

See you in April for the swim day,

regards

Elaine

Dear Ian,

Wanted to say a big THANKS to you, and to Will and Tom for a great weekend. Please pass on my thanks to them and also to Andy from Planet X if you happen to speak to him. I hope it went well from your perspective - from mine, it was just what was needed at the moment, a bit of tempo, the chance to ask questions and discuss plans and training and a wider range of company. I didn't feel totally on top of things in any discipline this weekend but realised that figuring out why - and not giving up when your mood is down - is all part of the learning and having your encouragement did make a big difference.

Look forward to seeing you next Sunday morning at TCR and hope you have a good week

Abs.

Hi Ian,

I received my swimming DVD this morning, thanks for pulling that together, excellent feedback from Will and some useful specific drills etc to focus on the points for improvement he highlights in the video.

I will print the programmes out and work on them when I return from skiing week after next.

Good luck with the training weekend next week.

See you soon

about 6and 1/2 hours of pool time ,great explaination of the drills

and what you should be achieving ,my pecs and lats deffo feel that they

have been worked,it has given me an incentive to improve, maybe i can

get nearer to that goal of 6:15min for 400m , overall the coaching and

the company was well worth it.

I thought the training camp was excellent at the weekend, I learnt a

great deal and was able to keep my elbows pretty high at Masters last

night, although still plenty to work to focus on there.

I find Will a very inspirational Coach, the way he describes the

techniques makes it easy for me to understand and try. I have started to

feel the ball of water he talks about in the catch and pull.

Hi Ian,

Many thanks for a graet week-end, please pass my thanks onto Yvonne as

well for putting up with me!

It was a brilliant week-end: the training was amazing, and the

atmosphere was ace! Can't wait for feb now, really want to get the swim

together and break 6min (was in the pool this morning ... After 2km I

realised my arms are still whacked from that band set!)

Ian

Great Weekend ! - thanks for Will, Ian and all of the "in-pool" participents for inspiration and coaching.

Highlight ? - synchronised drowning in the deep-end..

Low-light ? - Being run over by Paul and not having the opportunity to get him back..

Steve Darnell

Ian & Will

Agreed - great weekend and great to meet some new friends who share the

same goals - even if theirs are longer/faster/closer than mine !

Thanks to Ian and Will for keeping us all motivated and to Yvonne and

Josh for spending another Saturday night out with strangers. Happy

Birthday Yvonne.

I talked to a few of you about the US based Tritalk podcast from David

Marsden, whilst obviously not as good as the Jo and Will show ;-)

it is still a good 1/2 hour listen whilst out running or on a long bike

ride, see http://www.powertri.com/tritalk/ or just subscribe through

i-tunes.

See you all again in February ?

regards Graham

PS Seems like the guys at http://www.swim.ee/ have restricted access to

the video clips I told Will about but there are still some interesting

stills of good technique on there.

Hi There

Just wanted to thank you all for another great weekend.

Will / Ian thought the training sessions / theory were really well put

together and I got a great deal out of it.

Look forward to seeing you all soon

Cheers

Kate

As Kate says, another great weekend. Thanks Ian & Will. I went on a swim

training day a couple of years ago with Archie Brew; this weekend was

streets ahead of that!

Thanks also to the other participants for helping to make it as enjoyable as

it was!

Will's explanation of what we are trying to achieve by doing the drills was

very useful, in fact the whole theory thing was put across very clearly. It

helped a great deal when he got in the water to show us what to do. Looking

forward to receiving the video footage with Will's voiceover; I think you've

got you work cut out here mate :-)

I'm going to take further advice with regard to my alien left arm, though I

don't think transplantation is an option.

Thanks again and best wishes to all for the forthcoming season.

Matt

Ian, Will and Joe

Just a quick note to say very many thanks for organising a fab weekend and to echo all the positive comments made by everyone else!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, having never done a training camp before, but everyone was very friendly and I learned lots of useful stuff -

just hope I remember some of it, (good to actually meet you Will, after 6 months of telephone conversations!)

Looking forward to the Feb weekend..............

Regards

Elaine

Dear Ian

Personally, thanks to the immense amount of information and support, inspiration and tips picked up over the weekend from a wide range of people, yourself included, I looked at Ironman Switzerland and Ironman France and booked into Ironman France last night. I have drafted a training plan and also shortlisted some rural half and full marathons for spring.

Thanks so much for your time and sharing your experiences with us - it meant a lot. Please pass my thanks on to Joe and Will too.

Look forward to seeing you in February

Abi.

Hi Will, Joe and Ian.

Thank you for a tremendously informative and fun weekend. You have obviously worked very hard to put make this interesting and useful. I feel that I have so much more ammunition to boost my training in time for the 2007 season.

It was also good to meet Will in the flesh (so to speak!) after speaking by telephone only for over a year!

Great idea to do the bowling - I have decided to organise some bowling evenings with our club and as a regular cook, I can say that the meal was outstanding and excellent value for money, particularly after the previous evening's meal (and I use the word loosely!) at the dreadful Premier Travel Inn restaurant.

Will - Just going down to the pool to practise my "Spear" - hopefully eating fish tomorrow night!

Look forward seeing you in Lanz next year

Best regards,

Graham and Ann Pendred

Ian, Joe & Will

I second what Steve said. It was a great weekend: interesting, informative and great fun! Thanks for all the work you guys put in. Also, what a great bunch of people on the camp, though that shouldn't come as a surprise; triathlete types are always friendly :-D

Steve, I'll always blame you for making my bowling appear as bad as it really is!

What did I learn from the weekend? Make sure I shut the door when I go for a pee ... sorry ladies!

Looking forward to the next one.

Best wishes to all

Matt Edwards

Chester Tri Club

Hi there Ian

What an excellent couple of days @ Bredon - many thanks to you, Joe & Will for the excellent organisation for the weekend. Also, thanks to all the other folks there who with words of wisdom / wit / encouragement or plain & simple bowling action that made us all smile on Saturday evening

:-)

Takeaway's ? - Many:-

80%... Patience....Compete not Complete....trainers...head down in the pool... Plenty to work on !

Finally, Any chance you might send out the piccies from the weekend (especially the one near then end where we froze our ankles off for a laugh in the lake...) or will they go up on the website ? I told my wife what we did, and I don't think she quite believed we were that "dedicated"

Rgds

Steve

Dear Ian, Joe and Will,

On behalf of Kingswood Tri Club I too would like to thank you all for the hard work that went into organising this great w/e. I too had great fun and its great to meet such a nice group of friendly people. I am sure we will meet again soon in the new season!

Hope to see some of you again in Feb!

Yours in Sport

Eric

Hi Ian

Thanks a lot for a great weekend, we really enjoyed ourselves. Training was great, thanks for all the effort you put in.

We would love to come to another training weekend-we're racing Denbigh on the 17th but pretty much free other weekends.

Best wishes

Deb and Eamonn

Hi Ian,

Just like to say thanks again for a great weekend, and especially for putting me up on Saturday night. It was much appreciated.

I hope the Monday went as well as the other 2 days.

Cheers,

Neil

Dear all,

After Sunday's excellent pool session, and in particular Will's emphasis on getting an early catch and pull, I thought you might like to see how the world champions do it.

Attached is an excellent link to a website with a frame by frame analysis of Grant Hackett and Ian Thorpe's swim style. In particular, note how far they extend, how early they begin their catch and pull and also how much shoulder roll they get.

Lastly, thanks to Ian for a beautifully organised weekend right down to the laminated colour maps. Everything progressed seamlessly. I, for one, will be there for any future weekends/sessions that may be organised. I will take the opportunity offered by the injury enforced break to practice my bowling skills.

Lastly, thanks to everyone for making the weekend so memorable. I look forward to seeing you at future weekends and races.

Mike Short

Ian

Thanks for an excellent trg weekend - we are suitably exhausted!

Good luck with your big weeks trg in the weeks to come, I'll be glad to get

down to racing!

see you soon,

Sophie and Mike Whitworth

Ian

Thanks for today, enjoyed the whole day and appreciate your effort to organise such a well organised schedule.

Feel much better about training although a bit shattered at present after my pasta/rice fish huge recovery meal!

Look forward to meeting with you for a swim soon,

Cheers Tom

Ian

You've certainly got my support for the next one (mid to late August pls as

have a half on the 6th).....

Much thanks, a great weekend well organised.

Cheers

Sparky

Hi Ian

It's thanks to you for organising it, one thing I did learn I need to be 20

years younger!

Greatly enjoyed the swim coaching at the lido, surprised myself by finishing

it!

Should you do another I would love to take part (only in the eating - joke!)

thanks again, idea - how about a geriatric training weekend might look good

then!

Julie

Hi Ian

I just wanted to add my sincere thanks to those you've already received for organising a great weekend of triathlon training and fun!

This was my first experience of such a training "club" activity and, as you say, am feeling the "bug" for it start to grow - if I can convince my wife that coming along would be enjoyable as a relaxing weekend break for her (ie not as a trainee!) then I can see these becoming a regular event for me.
